Toffee Apples is a favorite in Fall and at Halloween parties. This is a great recipe to make with your kids on a rainy day and eat on a crispy Autumn evening enjoying a movie (or 2).
What you need:
6 sweet apples
8 oz white sugar
4 oz water
1 oz butter
2 tbsp maple syrup
4 tbsp mixed nuts, finely chopped (optional)
6 wooden skewers
Place the sugar and the water in a pan over low heat and heat until the sugar is dissolved.
Stir in the butter and maple syrup and bring to a boil. Boil until the mixture becomes syrupy and thick.
Remove the pan from the heat and add the nuts if using. Mix gently. Pierce the apples halfway through with the wooden skewers at the stalk end.
Dip each apple carefully into the toffee until well coated.
Place onto a lined baking tray until the toffee has hardened.
